Drama serial Dil e Nadan being criticised for Unrealistic Depiction of Elite Class

Geo TV’s drama Dil e Nadan is very much the favorite drama which has been attracting a good number of viewership on YouTube. Written by Sadia Akhtar, the drama is directed by Saima Waseem and produced under the 7th Sky Entertainment banner by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi. Including Amar Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Kinza Razzaq, Munazzah Arif, Azra Mansoor, and Ali Abbas, among others. The show has run 17 episodes so far since its debut, keeping everyone in the spotlight.
However, there has been criticism towards Dil e Nadan lately, which has been more specifically based on its wrong and excessive presentation of Pakistan’s elite class. Amar Khan has been praised for her role as Nayab in the drama Sunn Mere Dil, but has faced adverse criticism over the character she plays in this drama. The fans claim that the show has overdone some scenes, which could never happen in real life as they do not portray the real nature of Pakistan’s elite class.

For instance, when Nayab’s husband rebukes her over gol gappas and even forbids her from venturing out for local street food. He has been shown shocked over a very basic sweet dish called Zarda. Such scenes amused viewers, in particular those belonging to the élite class, as unreal. They argue that even affluent Pakistanis know what domestic food and sweets are and that drama is acting as if it is simply representing some foreign country’s elite, just like in the USA or UK.
People on social media are attacking the drama for these inadequacies and disconnected portrayals because it is questioning the irresponsible representation of elite lifestyle of Pakistan.
